Political vendetta: Jairam Ramesh on ED summons to Manipur Congress chief

After Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President K Meghachandra Singh was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticised the probe agency’s actions. He called it a case of “political vendetta” against Singh for his outspoken criticism of the BJP government.
Ramesh stated that the summons was intended to silence Singh, who has been vocal against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The summons issued to Singh was dated October 3, and requested Meghachandra to appear at its New Delhi office on Monday to provide evidence and produce records related to the investigation.
However, the leader did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday. He claimed that he received the notice on Monday only and was unable to appear on time. “I don’t understand why the ED summoned me. I am an MLA, not a minister,” he said.
Manipur Congress spokesperson N Bupendra Meitei extended his support for Meghachandra on social media, declaring that the party would fight the matter legally in court.
Meghachandra Singh is known for his strong opposition to the BJP and Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
